Type Locality and Naming

The type section lies from the south slope of Deriangma Mt. to Xiala Mt. 6 km (straight distance) northeast of Yunzhug Township, Xianza, Tibet. It was named by Yang Shipu and Fan Yingnian in 1982.


Lithology and Thickness

Clayey Limestone. Dominated by thin- to moderately thick-bedded purple-red, purple-gray and yellow nodular clayey limestones, containing ferruginous bioclastic limestone, with ferruginous-calcareous poorly sorted quartzose sandstone at bottom. Thickness 29 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Disconformable contact with the underlying Pongga Fm.

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Yunzhug Fm.

Regional extent

Mainly distributed along Yunzhug Township of Xianza to both flanks of the Tarma syncline and Gemang Co.

Fossils

Contained in the limestone are Corals Endothecium elegantum, Hapsiphyllum minor and Rhopalolasma sp., Brachiopods Ovatia wischnjakewi, Overtonia fimbriata and Plicochonetes buchianus.
